Okay José is a six-piece band that hails from San Francisco's Western Addition district. Formed as a song-writing project in November of 2009 by three friends, the band quickly grew to six members: Ben Dávila, Mary Hansell, Cyrus Hedayati, Ryan Kochevar, Elysha Rom-Povolo, and Casey Saran.

A few band members have classical backgrounds, one majored in ethnomusicology, another wrote his dissertation on music in cartoons and two are completely self-taught. Four of the members met through playing together in the San Francisco collective Photons. Three played in Berkeley's The Hang. All six write songs, contribute vocally, and play a variety of instruments. Really, it's just confusing to do the math.

The band's live line-up features a keytar, toy instruments, male and female vocals, a romping percussion section, plus the traditional bass and guitar. Their recordings showcase these basics layered with various sythesizers, autoharp, theremin, toy piano, electronic drumkit, charango, and clarinet, among other instruments.
